My
Story

I’m Dr Andrew Leech, a General Practitioner in Perth and the Founder and Director of The Garden Family Medical Clinic. I work with children, teenagers and adults, with a strong focus on preventative medicine and improving mental health. I also have special interests and training in child health, eating disorders, suicide prevention, neurodiversity and helping families make sense of complex symptoms and stressful chapters in their lives.   I aim to be empathetic. We are all on different journeys; no one can judge you for what you're going through. I try to create a space where people feel safe enough to be honest and supported enough to take the next step forward.

I’m an author of two published books. My writing is aimed at parents, educators, and health professionals who want clear, realistic, and kind guidance.  Outside of medicine, I’m a husband and a dad. Fatherhood keeps me grounded and constantly learning. It’s also a daily reminder that families do not need perfection. They need support, clear information, and someone in their corner when things feel hard.

Speaking & Advocacy

I contribute to education and advocacy through conference speaking, working within the media on radio and in the newspaper and through workshops for schools, healthcare organisations and consumer groups. I feel a responsibility to speak up when it comes to adversity, or the complex care systems that exist in Australia in areas such as child mental health.

This has led me to represent General Practice at state and national Parliamentary Enquiries. I’ve written and spoken publicly about tricky issues like self-harm, anxiety, trauma, domestic violence, bullying, social media, autism and ADHD, parenting, school avoidance, and the pressures facing young people today.

My “why” and approach to care

I’ve always believed health is rarely just one thing. Physical symptoms, stress, sleep, school pressure, family dynamics, hormones, trauma, neurodiversity, and life load can all play a part. My job as a GP is to work out the 'why' behind all this.

Doing my best to sit with you in times that are difficult, but also celebrate what is going well and when things turn a corner.
I value clear explanations, evidence-based care, and step-by-step plans that families can actually do in real life.

My day-to-day work often includes:

  • Child and adolescent mental health (anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation)

  • Supporting people I've known for a long time and checking in on how they are going in their health journey

  • ADHD, autism, tics and neurodiversity support

  • Learning concerns, school stress and school avoidance

  • Parenting support and family wellbeing

  • Women’s health, pelvic pain and endometriosis care

  • Chronic conditions and sometimes more complex, long-term health needs

Writing, books, and media

Advocacy

I write and speak publicly because families and clinicians deserve information that is clear, realistic and hopeful. My work includes articles, media commentary, and podcast interviews across the globe.

I’m also an author, and in 2025 my book on teenage mental health will be published by Wiley,  aimed at parents, educators and health professionals.

The Garden Family Medical Clinic

The Garden Family Medical Clinic was created to be more than a standard GP clinic...It’s a multidisciplinary, patient-centred healthcare hub where families can access integrated support across paediatrics, mental health, women’s health and chronic disease care. We work as a team because one person rarely solves complex problems in a single appointment.

A key part of my work has also been developing better pathways for people living with chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis, including our GP-led Chronic Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis Clinic.

The Garden Family Medical Clinic is built around the kind of care I wish existed when I was growing up. It’s a multidisciplinary, patient-centred clinic where GPs work closely with a wider team to support families across paediatrics, mental health, and conditions that don't seem to fit anywhere else but affect our lives daily. One of the greatest challenges I've seen facing society is that too many people have had to fight too hard for help. I’m passionate about improving access, education and quality of care in this space.

“I started The Garden because I kept seeing families who needed more time, better coordination, and care that joined the dots between physical health, mental health, school, and family life.

The clinic is designed to be a place where people feel known, not rushed, and where support is shared across a team.”
